Manchester Christmas Markets 2019 dates confirmed

Are you feeling festive yet? Manchester’s world-famous Christmas celebrations will return to the city for 2019.

The countdown has begun to the biggest event in Manchester’s festive calendar – the Manchester Christmas Markets.

Manchester has become one of the UK’s most popular destinations in the run up to Christmas. It hosts the country’s best Christmas Markets at spots across the city centre – this year’s markets are open until Saturday, December 22.

Shoppers come from across the land to pick up gifts from hundreds of shops and stores, while festive revellers can enjoy some of the best bars and restaurants. So here’s around-up of the best things to do in Manchester this festive season.

Pick up some festive goodies from the many stalls

Filling the streets with bratwurst and gluhwein, this will be the 20th instalment of the festive favourite.

With more than 300 beautifully-festooned stalls and chalets spread across the city centre, the Manchester Christmas Markets are free and accessible to all.

This year’s city-wide event will make its return on Friday November 8, with traders operating seven days a week until Saturday December 21.

The Albert Square stalls will remain open until 4pm on Sunday December 22.

The event, which features hundreds of international food, drink and gift market stalls, attracts millions of Christmas-hungry visitors each year.

There will be lots of traditional food on offer Bratwurst (German sausage), Hungarian goulash, Spanish paella, hog roast – food in the markets is sold by traders from across Europe, so the selection is very diverse.

Enjoy some delicious festive food

As well as the mulled wine offerings, there are plenty of new food retailers.

Some of the most popular stalls such as Northern Soul with their Christmas grilled cheese sandwich and hot cookie dough stacks from Elsie May’s.

It’s hoped that further local flavour can be added to 2019’s proceedings. Exact locations have yet to be confirmed but we can expect to see much of the city centre filled with festivities, from Cathedral Gardens to Market Street, King Street to Albert Square.

It will be the first time in 12 years that Manchester’s giant glowing Santa, affectionately nicknamed Zippy because of his resemblance to the Rainbow character, will not be overseeing the celebrations from the Town Hall.

Winter wonderland

Winter Wonderland at Event City Manchester 2019 is being produced by Winter Funland this year, and they’ve got some surprises and exciting activities in store for all the family, young and old.

Winterfunland tickets are all inclusive and include access to Manchester’s largest real ice ice-skating rink, a magical festival circus, a gigantic indoor funfair, traditional Christmas panto and Santa’s Grotto

This year’s Christmas Winter Wonderland 2019 bonanza is taking place in EventCity, intu Trafford Centre, Greater Manchester.
