Derbyshire and the Peak District shopping

Derbyshire and the Peak District has bags to offer on the retail therapy front. Begin your shopping trip in Chesterfield with high street favourites, like Marks and Spencer, H&M, Monsoon and Boots. The town is also home to an indoor market and one of the largest open-air markets with a history dating back to 1204. Independent shops include Adorn Jewellers, a beautiful independent jewellery boutique.

If markets are your thing, then after Chesterfield, Bakewell is the place to head. The Peak District town is home to the farmers’ market, which regularly attracts more than 5,000 visitors and is held under cover on the last Saturday of every month. Peak Shopping Village in Rowsley, near Bakewell, nestles in the stunning countryside of the Peak District. Shops include Pavers Shoes, Cotton Traders and Regatta mingle with stores such as Leading Labels, House of Brands, The Wool Room, The Gift Company and Big Top Toys. Not far from Rowsley is the market town of Bakewell. As well as its popular weekly indoor farmers’ market, Bakewell has a wide and interesting selection of small independent retailers.

To the west of the Peak District you’ll find the picturesque towns of Ashbourne and Buxton. Ashbourne boasts luxury fashion retailer Young Ideas which has stylish collections for men and women. Henmores is another must-visit for clothing. Maison Du Biere stocks real ale and local companies White Peak and Derbyshire Distillery. Buxton’s oldest shopping centre is the Cavendish Shopping Arcade has an array of local independent shops including Divine Trash, which sells a selection of women’s and men’s clothing brands, Atticusboo for gorgeous giftware and Charlotte’s Chocolates for hand-made chocolates.

No visit to Derbyshire is complete without a trip to Derby city centre. With more than 140 stores, intu Derby has Monsoon, River Island, New Look, Phase Eight, Zara, Moss Bros and Infinities.  If homeware is more your thing, then head to Denby and the Denby Visitor Centre home of the 200-year-old pottery brand for the chance to bag a bargain.
