Dumfries and Galloway shopping

Dumfries and Galloway offers fantastic shopping opportunities and here’s some of the best places to shop. Smugglers Cove Gift Shop in Portpatrick is what the term ‘Aladdin’s cave’ was made for. Also in Portpatrick, The Lighthouse Pottery is a quirky hidden gem selling everything from jewellery to soft toys. Drive through the Nith Valley to Sanquhar and you’ll find A’ the Airts on the High Street, next to the Tolbooth Museum. Nestled in the heart of Southern Scotland, Moffat is a vibrant and bustling town and Moffat’s 17 Reasons displays a unique collection of hand-crafted goods.

The undulating landscape of Dumfries and Galloway has bred a passion for the outdoors. Whether its walking or mountain biking, water sports or golf, there are specialist shops that can kit you out for all of these activities – and the Scottish weather. Kirkcowan Cycles is one such store, a family-run independent bike shop in Newton Stewart with years of cycling experience. Its down the road from some of the best mountain biking trails in Britain and is just off National Cycle Route 7.

There is genuine pride in the regions produce, whether that be its crafts or food and drink. To experience this for yourself its worth checking out the thriving markets – particularly farmers’ markets – that have become a regular feature on local calendars. You can also travel round farms and shops to pick up samples of local delicacies.
