Radio host Leanne Campbell takes you on a personal tour of her hometown Liverpool

Where’s home, and why?
Home will always be Walton. My mum still lives in the house I grew up in and this is where we all meet as a family each week. I moved to Crosby and it’s so lovely. I feel very lucky to be able to take my children to the beach at the end of the road and we love everything it has to offer – but Walton will always be my home.

What is your first memory of Liverpool?
I have so many. I can clearly remember the buzz in our city when Michael Jackson played Aintree. That really stands out for me. What an amazing event! I was really small and very jealous of my older cousins who had plans to watch from a friend’s rooftop close to the racecourse. I was tucked up in bed wearing my tiny MJ T-shirt but could hear the screams and cheers from miles away.

Red, blue or neutral?
Red. My father, brother, husband and son all love Liverpool and go to the match often. I used to go the game but only when the gorgeous Jamie Redknapp played.

Favourite view?
It’s got to be from the top of the Radio City Tower. I pinch myself each day because it’s out of this world. I catch the sun coming up over the River Mersey each morning and it’s breathtaking. It never gets tired.

What’s your favourite Liverpool night out?
I love going to the theatre. So I’d start at the Liverpool Empire head down to Brooklyn Mixer on Seel Street (the music there is fantastic if you like R&B) then finish at Mansion in Temple Street. I love to dance so those places keep me off my bar stool.

Favourite place to eat?
I’ve been going to Casa Italia for years. The staff are so bubbly and the food is superb. Perfect for a cosy date night or tea with the whole family. I have the same dish every time – Tortellini Alla Panna. Just gorgeous!

Best pub?
The Crocodile. Or the Croc as we call it around here. It’s hidden away on Harrington Street and looks small from outside but inside it’s bouncing. Karaoke, reasonable prices and alway a great crowd. My mum and dad took me there years ago now I’ve introduced it to all my friends and we love it.

Which Liverpool building would you like to buy?
Speke Hall. I went on a ghost tour recently and I was hooked. It’s so beautiful and full of character. In the summer we meet friends and take our children to roam the beautiful gardens.

If you wanted to show a visitor the essence of Liverpool, where would you take them?
My house! Scouse, crusty bread, a few shandies and a singalong would be perfect for them. If not my house, then the Albert Dock. Loads to do like the Beatles Story museum and all the quirky little shops. And of course a close-up view up of the amazing Liver Birds just up the road.

Speke Hall

Best place for a first date?
The Malmaison restaurant. It’s very glam and private. The food is gorgeous and I love their cocktail bar. If the conversation dried up you can always watch the chefs at work in the private dining area and talk about that!

Favourite walk?
Crosby to Hightown. Straight down the beach to the pathway which leads to The Hightown pub. I take my children on their scooters and they play in the huge beer garden. They do great deals on pub lunches and the food is lovely. Then we jump the train back, right outside the pub.

Favourite shops?
A little boutique called The Dressing Room on School Lane. A local girl, Stephanie Rooney, owns it. She travels to Paris and New York searching for stunning vintage pieces and I’ve honestly never been in and not bought something!
