History buffs are in luck as Hereford, the metropolitan centre of Herefordshire, is a cathedral city. The stunning cathedral has been standing for 1,300 years and has a magnificent tower with several hundred steps leading to a breathtaking view. Those who make it to the top are given certificates! Tours can be organised of the cathedral, the tower and the beautiful gardens.
Eastnor Castle
Another historical treat is a visit to Eastnor Castle, which has won tourism awards. It is a 19-century revival castle set in vast parkland filled with walking trails and a lake. A day out here is a real cultural treat, there’s also medieval armour and a fine art collection on display.

Amazing animals
If you’re travelling with children, Herefordshire has a bounty of delights to offer youngsters, including several animal-themed attractions. Little ones will be dazzled by the Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo, where tropical butterflies will fly around as you learn all about them. The Small Breeds Farm Park and Owl Centre is another brilliant destination. Everyone will be squealing when they see the cute miniature creatures at the centre. Being hands-on with the animals is encouraged and children will love petting them.
