Cumbria and the Lake District

Enjoy time in one of the most beautiful regions of the UK

Welcome to Cumbria & the Lake District!

Cumbria and the Lake District, one of the most beautiful regions in the UK, are blessed with a wealth of opportunities to enjoy a fantastic day out. The geography and history of the county have much to do with this, many attractions are based on their lake, mountain or coastal location or centred on cultural icons. But ancient history also draws many people to the region. The 73-mile-long coast-to-coast Hadrian’s Wall, built by the Romans, is one of two UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the county, the other being the area of the Lake District National Park. As well as the stunning scenery, there are some fantastic family days out at wonderful museums or you can enjoy a taste sensation at one of the region’s splendid restaurants. Cumbria has earned itself an enviable reputation as a county of exceptional food, whether served in Michelin-starred restaurants, hotels or classy tea rooms.

The county has also been a breeding ground for top chefs and as you’d expect attracts many others from across the country, and indeed the world. What a spectacular place to open a restaurant, after all. Come here also to explore traditional pub culture and sample excellent local produce and uniquely Cumbrian dishes – Cumberland sausage, Grasmere Gingerbread, sticky toffee pudding, Herdwick lamb and potted shrimps are among the delicacies.
